A new facility situated within the Cultural Arts District. As such, it takes its place among arts institutions and draws its arts inspiration from that proximity. The building is a sleek contemporary metal and glass design that fits in seamlessly with the aesthetic of the structures around it.
We strived to create spaces which open one into the other rather than to make boxes through which a guest passes one at a time. The resulting experience is of a free-flowing continuity of spaces which begin at the entry and conclude at the Art Walk, Meeting Rooms and Restaurant.
The hotel interiors draw upon this formal character and expand upon it by offering sweeping interior spaces with museum walls to provide the background suitable for the extensive art collection being exhibited here. The art, a combination of wall hung flat art and ceiling hung sculpture is more that an accessory to the spaces. Instead, the art functions as a part of the architecture, deepening the views and helping to structure interior spaces.
The rooms are similarly conceived as moments of cool calm hovering over the city and adorned with a few select pieces of art. The corridors on each floor bear the special imprint of one of the seven arts represented in the hotel’s collection – painting, sculpture, dance, music composition, film, theater and photography. The furniture of the rooms is built in, emphasizing a central tenet of this design – everything is purposeful, has a place and design not to intrude on the experience of the spaces. The suites on the upper level each have a combination of wall and ceiling art emphasizing the dramatic ceiling heights of the top floor. A rooftop pool and garden caps the ensemble.
