OLD WESTBURY HEBREW CONGRETATION CHAPEL, OLD WESTBURY, NY - This daily chapel was erected as a memorial to a distinguished member of this faith community whose religious observance inspired his family to create an intimate worship space that sustained and enhanced frequent services. Bathed in natural light through a series of west facing “pillars” that catch the early morning rays of light filtering through a skylight to the east, the space emanates with energy in the early morning hours. Simple in form but complex in its relationship to the religious ceremony and the natural environment, the architecture bridges the complex and abstract world of religious revelation and the concrete physical domain of man-on-earth.
