RIVER PARK, NEW YORK, NY - River Park presented the opportunity to develop a restaurant which functioned both as an urban amenity and a special feature of the Science Research Facility of which it is a part. Set within a cleanly detailed highrise, the restaurant carries forward the crisp detailing of the building but in a rich material palette of white oak, French limestone, bronze and frosted glass. With views out over the East River, the restaurant possesses extraordinary natural light during the daytime entering through its north, east and south facing facades. The main dining area is tiered out from its center, a raised platform nestled below an illuminated trellis, toward the periphery at the glassy edge and out to the roof gardens beyond. The bar straddles the high and low dining areas with open shelving that permits views through to the water and city scape beyond. The restaurant also features two private dining areas. The first is an intimately scaled venue situated at the southeastern corner of the space with exterior glass on two walls. The second is a large meeting room. Its 15’ tall sliding glass partitions open to create a continuous space merged with the main dining area. This flexibility allows the restaurant to serve the building community as a casual lunch spot, a business meeting venue, a conference proceeding or an intimate evening meal.
